Prof. Dr. Sunil Patil is an industry veteran with more than 30 years of experience in the Information Technology domain.

He began his career at Bell Labs, Murray Hill, New Jersey, in the Communications Integrated Circuits Division, working on several mixed-signal integrated circuits. Later, he became the Director of the Wireless Networks Group. He also contributed to global business development, establishing an offshore development centre for Bell Labs in Bengaluru, India, and partnering with premier IT companies. Later, he moved on to be the Head of the R&D and Learning Center at T-Systems (a subsidiary of Deutsch Telecom, Germany) and a Senior Manager (India Operations) at BMC Software.

Over the years, his professional pursuits have also extended into education, strategic outsourcing, and entrepreneurship. He has published several papers in national and international journals and has co-authored a book on the Empowerment of Faculty in Engineering Education. He is currently working on his next book, which focuses on the quality of education in schools.

His work in education has led him to engage closely with questions surrounding educational quality. He was awarded a PhD by the Faculty of Management, Symbiosis International University, Pune, India. His academic journey includes an MBA from the Miller School of Business, Ball State University, Indiana, USA; an MSEE with a specialization in Communications Engineering from the Charles Schaefer School of Engineering and Science, Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey, USA; an MASC with a specialization in Digital Signal Processing from the University of Windsor, Canada; and an ME with a specialization in Power Electronics from Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute (VJTI), Bombay. He obtained his BE in Electrical Engineering from Nagpur University, India.

His association with academia includes his tenure from 2009 to 2016 as Professor and Director of the Symbiosis Institute of Telecom Management (SITM). He has also been associated with the International Institute of Information Technology (I2IT), Pune, where he worked as Professor in Advanced Networking & Telecom, Dean (Academics), and Vice President for International Relations.

Across these different stages of his career, his work has brought together industry experience, technology, business, and education, with his current work continuing to focus on the quality of education.
